Street Based Teams in Sheffield
Working as part of the Integrated Youth Support Service Sheffield Youth Offending Service and South Yorkshire Police contribute to the work and delivery of effective Street Based Teams in a number of communities across the city.
This relatively new initiative has been introduced to prevent Anti-Social Behaviour amongst young people and to uncover the root causes. This methodology is designed to increase visibility within communities, which should improve community perception and cohesion.
The Street Based Teams are made up of staff from a range of different agencies and effectively form an outreach service, to positively engage with young people on a Friday and Saturday night and support them to achieve positive outcomes. Partners involved in the teams include Prevention Officers, South Yorkshire Police, Youth Workers, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Social Workers, Health Professionals, Family Support Workers, Education Welfare Officers. The Street Based Teams are designed to fuse together the strengths of these agencies, using a range of problem solving techniques.
The aims and objectives are to engage with young people and signpost them into positive activities, encourage young people to keep safe, identify vulnerable young people, and challenge and support their behaviour to make them aware of the impact their actions have on others. Staff in the teams are able to listen to what young people need in the community. This is an operation, which is positive for everyone living within our communities and has a positive effect on reducing anti social behaviour.
