Support for Parents/Carers
Sheffield Youth Offending Service aims to provide support to parents/carers on a voluntary and statutory basis. Parents/carers are able to access support including, One to One parenting support, Family Interventions and Parenting programmes.
What is parenting support?
Parenting support services provides parents/carers the opportunity to build upon their existing skills and abilities in managing their child's behaviour that puts them at risk of offending and/or reoffending.
What kind of parenting support can I access?
One to One parenting support
- One to One advice and signposting to other services
- Practical support in managing the behaviour of their child
- Supporting parents to put in place appropriate and realistic boundaries
- Supporting parents to improve how they communicate with their child
- Support parents to improve their relationship with their child
Family interventions
- To support family members in improving their relationships
- To support family members to recognise their existing strengths and skills in order to build upon these
- To support family members to use consistent strategies when managing the more difficult times
Parenting programmes
- Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) - this programme is an evidence based parenting programme for parents/carers of teenagers. The course is designed to promote a positive relationship between parents and their child, whilst enabling parents to develop effective and positive strategies for managing a variety of teenage behaviour problems and common developmental issues
