Volunteers > Mentors
The Mentoring Project
trains volunteers to provide one to one support to
children and young people who are referred by the
Youth Offending Service in Sheffield. The ultimate
aim of the project is to empower young people to be
able to make the choices that will reduce the risk of
them re-offending.
The project provides mentors for young people to
support them in addressing a range of needs including
accommodation, education, drug and alcohol dependency
and family issues. Two important aspects of mentoring
young people at risk of offending are to raise their
self-esteem and introduce them to various local
resources they may access after the mentoring
relationship has ended.
Mentors must be able to commit a minimum of three
hours per week in one block of time to volunteering
for a period of at least six months.
Volunteers must be aged at least 18yrs and be resident
in Sheffield for a full twelve months following
training. No formal qualifications are required to
become either an Appropriate Adult or a Mentor as full
training is given. ‘Out of pocket’ expenses will be
met as agreed by project staff.
If you are interested in either Mentoring or becoming an Appropriate Adult please ring us at the YOS on 2288545 or contact us at the following email addresses:
